Who We AreThe New Palestine Education Foundation was established in 2010 as the Southern Hancock Education Foundation.
A small group of community members partnered with several educators to create a foundation to support the schools in the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County, since renamed the New Palestine Community Schools. Our mission is to promote and support quality public education within the New Palestine community. The Foundation’s name was updated to its current name in 2021 to better reflect its work in the New Palestine community. |
What We Do
The Foundation has identified three key areas of support:
To support teacher innovation in their classrooms through a Teacher Mini-Grant program.
Each fall teachers have the opportunity to apply for funds that will impact student learning in their classroom. These grants typically run between $200-$500.
To fund professional development in each of the New Palestine Community Schools.
Each year, schools are granted funds to support school leaders to implement high quality professional development.
To provide scholarships for learning opportunities for New Palestine students.
In particular, the foundation seeks to provide career learning opportunities for students who may be interested in public relations, philanthropic work and/or education by offering a scholarship-based opportunity to work alongside our organization and the New Palestine Community Schools, helping move our foundation forward while giving students valuable career skills and financial compensation.

Making A Difference
An exciting new project has been implemented over the past several school years. Again with the support of alumni of New Palestine High School, and the school corporation, the Foundation has kicked off the NPHS Distinguished Alumni program. Honorees are selected from alumni nominated by the community and other alumni each year. These honorees are then recognized in our annual Gala fundraiser.
In recent years, the Foundation has also sought funding to support students and teachers during the pandemic and its impacts upon schools. It has also partnered with the Southern Hancock leaders in county-wide efforts to encourage the families of incoming kindergarten students to sign up for the 529 college savings programs. With the support of the New Palestine area community, alumni from around the country, and from ordinary folks that want to make a difference in the Southern Hancock Schools, the New Palestine Education Foundation takes pride in its efforts to make our schools the benefactor of funds that promote excellence in education in each of the six public schools in this school community! |
